Music Video Proposal & Feedback

Powered by emaze

Overall our feedback was positive with minimal criticisms.
Our class liked our chosen locations we will shoot at, our projections we plan to include and our simplicity of our music video.
However, our teacher, Vanessa suggested that we don't have double exposure effect as it's a difficult and long process to complete. We will just include projections for our studio shoot.

Today's Progression

Layla and I have started to create our music video proposal presentation. We chose to display our presentation on Emaze. As it is straightforward and efficient as well as it being cloud-based which is convenient for adding information at a later date.
Slides we have left to complete is our music video inspirations - previous case studies, our actors in our video, target audiences, examples of potential shots and channel for broadcasts

Music Video Treatment

Music Video - Treatment:
Raye ‘Bet You Wish’

  • The song Layla and I have chosen for our music video is ‘Bet You Wish’  by Raye.

  • This will be mainly Performanced based but will include narrative also. The narrative element to the video will be a male - love interest who is angry towards our performer. This links to the lyrics as the song states that her lover did not treat her with respect.
  • The performance side will be lip synched by Shana April
  • The locations we have chosen to have our music video set at is Shoreditch E1, Leake Street and our college studio. We chose to have our video performed at Shoreditch and Leake Street as there are lot of colourful street art located her and it's easy to get to. We chose to have our video also set in our college studio so we are able to add in effects - projections and double exposure effects.

  • The professional music video which inspire some of my ideas is Nicki Minaj ‘Pills and Potions’, Rihanna ‘We Found Love’ and Tove Lo ‘Habits (Stay High)’.
  • There are minimal ethical considerations due to the age of our main performer, the genre as well as the overall theme of our video. However, our large use of graffiti footage throughout could suggest our product to be promoting vandalism-criminal offense.
  • Length of the track is 3minutes 20 seconds but the video will be 3minutes 40 seconds, as we will feature in the first 20 seconds of our video audio of the male character sending a voice note to ‘Raye’ -  Shana.
  • The audience in this video will be mainly young people as this genre is Pop/R&B - which is a genre that already targets the younger generation.
  • The channels of broadcast will be Youtube - popular music channel.

Lyrics Progress

Layla and I have decided to work as a pair and have chosen to base our project on the song 'Bet You Wish' By Raye, this was one of my potential songs and complete some work as part of our summer homework task - so therefore I already have a prospective idea as the foundation of the video. The song itself also correlates with a genre and theme we wish to conform and therefore we shall combine our ideas to create the visuals to the soundtrack that assimilates all codes and conventions that the genre requires, as well as our own original, authentic ideas.
We have already discussed possible shots for the video and therefore have managed to complete a lyric annotation in an attempt to envision and have a more understanding of the lyrics and emotions it is intended to provoke. We also decided that narrative elements will be effective as it adds more depth to the overall theme portrayed as the final product. After repetitively listening to the soundtrack we thought of three suitable locations that will suit the urban ambience of the song, most of which being public locations; such as Hackney/Shoreditch, Leake Street and the college studio. These ideas are not 100% conclusive as we are still open to new ideas, however we seem to have the bulk of the foundation of the song arranged.

Analyse A Music Video Case Study 3 - Tove Lo ~ Habits (Stay High)

Lip Sync Task - SZA Love Galore

Lip Sync Task Evaluation:

The finished edit of our video is in my opinion decent considering the limited time we had to film and edit, however as we only had a short time to edit and film, we came across a few complications.
Something we wish to improve for future projects is matching the timing of the soundtrack and our video. We tried to attempt this in this video as close as possible. Another weakness we found once editing is controlling the light of some moments of our video. We noticed in the football pitch scene, the light was over-exposed - the natural lighting looked over powering. We could of adjust this problem by controlling the settings on the camera.
However, the performers dedication and enthusiasm is visible which enables the audience to have more of an emotional response. The tripod also enabled stability throughout the video  - this then gives a sense of professionalism.we include a range of shots into our video - long shot, medium shot and close ups. This made the video look creative.
We also added in some effect into our video at the end - fade out of the video and a fade out of the song. This is more advanced techniques such as the fade of sound. The text inserted also correlated to the codes and conventions of the love genre.

Lip Sync Music Video Task - PROGRESSION

My group and I chose to use the song 'Love Galore' by SZA. This is because the song has easy, simple lyrics - which would make it easy for the editing process and filming. Also, I was happy to lip sync the song as I was comfortable in being in front of the camera because I know the song well.We filmed a minute of the song outside in our College field in Close ups, Mid Shot and a Long Shot. In the football pitch, basketball court and a bench. The camera we used to record the video was Canon DSLR. We also had our camera on a camera stand, so our video will be steady throughout.

The lesson after we recorded our footage, we went to the editing room and used Premier Pro. We went through the footage and decided on transitions and what shots to use and when.
We struggled slightly with syncing the video with the song as whilst creating the video, we chose to have quick cutting rates at some parts of the song. Which then made it difficult to edit as we had to find the exact second of each lyric that I lipsych to then match with the next shot.    Even though it's taking us awhile to get the correct, we will continue to edit our video in next lesson, so we can have our video sync with the song as much as possible. For next lesson we also hope to add in a few effect to our video to make it more interesting and exciting.
